RULES & REGULATIONS

Il Festino is a premier cycling race tailored for enthusiasts, welcoming both
seasoned professionals and passionate amateurs to compete.

Inspired by the legendary Giro d’Italia, Il Festino offers a thrilling race
experience, bringing the excitement and prestige of professional cycling to everyone involved.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, September 28th, 2025, at D.I.
Yogyakarta. Riders will push their limits as they race through stunning
landscapes, embracing the challenge of the course while enjoying the beauty
of the surroundings.

  1. Participants must be at least 18 years old by the year of the competition, or by September 30, 2025.
  2. Registration can only be completed through the official Il Festino website
    or via the link provided by the organizers.
  3. The registration deadline is August 31, 2025, or earlier if the participant
    quota is reached.
  4. Participants must submit a health certificate either electronically or in
    physical form, depending on the method provided by the committee or
    during race package collection.
  5. Registration is non-transferable and cannot be sold or assigned to another person.
  6. Il Festino provides life insurance coverage for all registered participants.
  7. Registration fees are non-refundable under any circumstances, including
    force majeure events.

  1. The race pack collection date will be announced soon.
  2. Participants must present a valid form of identification, such as KTP, passport, or KITAS, along with a photo ID.
  3. If you are unable to collect your race pack in person, a representative can
    do so by submitting an authorization letter along with your proof of
    registration. A sample authorization letter can be downloaded here.
  4. For group pickups, each participant must provide an authorization letter. A representative can collect up to 4 race packs.

  1. Participants must use standard road bikes with conventional frames.
    Recumbent bikes, prone bikes with hand pedaling, mountain bikes, and e-bikes are prohibited. Road bikes with electric assistive devices or assistive wheels are also not allowed.
  2. The width of bike tires must not exceed 30 mm.
  3. The minimum bike weight allowed is 6.8 kg, excluding the bidon, bike
    computer, and bento box. Bike inspections will take place before and after the race according to committee regulations.
  4. Only drop handlebars are permitted. Any modifications, such as clip-on
    extensions, are strictly prohibited.
  5. Helmets are mandatory for all participants. They must be certified cycling
    helmets with adjustable fastening systems and no visible damage (e.g., cracks or broken straps). The committee reserves the right to stop
    participants without helmets or with unsafe helmets. Removing your helmet during the race will result in immediate disqualification.
  6. Participants must wear the official Il Festino jersey for the entire event.  Ensure you select the correct size during registration.
  7. Participants must display the race numbers provided by the committee, including bib number, bike tag, seat-post number, and helmet number.
  8. Participants are encouraged to bring essential cycling tools, such as spare
    tubes, a pump, or CO2 cylinders for tire repairs during the race.

  1. Il Festino will implement a wave start system, and participants must line up according to their assigned wave or peloton.
  2. Participants who arrive late or miss their designated start time may be
    reassigned to a different wave or peloton at the discretion of the
    committee.
  3. All required equipment — such as bib number, helmet number, bike
    number, jersey, and helmet — must be worn before entering the start area. The committee reserves the right to refuse entry to the start area if any equipment is missing or does not meet the required standards.

  1. All participants must follow the official race route and adhere to the
    instructions given by marshals and event supervisors along the course.
    Failure to comply with the designated route or instructions may result in
    disqualification.
  2. Time limits will be enforced at specific checkpoints along the route.
    Participants who fail to meet the time limits will be required to board the
    broom wagon and return to race central, with their status marked as "Did
    Not Finish" (DNF). Refusing evacuation by the marshal may result in being barred from participating in future Il Festino events.
  3. In certain sections of the route with hazardous descents, the committee
    may choose not to record times for safety reasons. These sections will be
    clearly communicated in advance through the race guide and at the pre-race briefing.

  1. Drafting behind a motorized vehicle is strictly prohibited. Participants
    caught drafting will receive a verbal warning. Repeated violations may
    result in disqualification from the race.
  2. Participants are not allowed to pull or hold onto a moving motorized
    vehicle. Anyone caught doing so will be disqualified from the race.
  3. The use of motorized vehicles during the race is prohibited unless a
    participant has been declared DNF and is subject to the race time limit.
    Any participant using a motorized vehicle during the race will be
    disqualified.
  4. Participants must show respect to marshals, committee members, and
    competition judges. Rude or inappropriate behavior toward any race
    officials may result in disqualification and a ban from future Il Festino
    events.
  5. Personal support vehicles are not allowed during the race. The use of a
    personal support vehicle may lead to disqualification.
  6. Medical teams and ambulances will be stationed along the race route. If a participant requires medical assistance, they can receive help from the
    medical team. Doctors and paramedics have the authority to stop any
    participant deemed unfit to continue the race for medical reasons.

  1. General Classification (GF), King of the Mountain (KOM)/Queen of the Mountain (QOM), and Sprint results will be based on gun time, verified by the Indonesian Cycling Federation Race Commissaire Team.
    Overall rankings for age categories will be determined based on net time, also verified by the Race Commissaire Team.
  2. Medio Fondo participants will have their times recorded, but please note it is not considered a competitive category.
  3. Age categories for Il Festino are calculated based on the participant’s year of birth. Example: For 2025, a participant born in 1991 will be classified as 34 years old. The age categories are as follows:

  4. The timing chip will be affixed to the bike plate. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure the chip is properly installed and remains undamaged (i.e., not folded or cut) throughout the race.
  5. Participants are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of their registration information. Any incorrect details that result in being placed in the wrong age category will lead to disqualification.
  6. All riders must follow the ceremonial start (location to be announced), with the flying start taking place at a designated point on the course. Full details will be shared ahead of time.
  7. The overall category winner will be the cyclist with the fastest time from the designated start line to the mountain top finish, which will also be announced in due course.
  8. The sprint category winner will be the cyclist with the fastest time from the flying start to the sprint finish line, which will be revealed closer to the event.
  9. The mountain category winner will be the cyclist with the best time from the designated start point to the finish line at the mountain top. This location will be announced before the race.
  10. All participants in the age categories are eligible to compete and win in both the sprint and mountain categories.

  1. In line with Il Festino’s commitment to supporting the World Anti-Doping
    Agency (WADA) and the Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency (LADI) in
    promoting clean sports, the use of performance-enhancing drugs is
    strictly prohibited. A list of banned substances can be found here: https://www.wada-ama.org/en/prohibited-list
  2. Participants currently serving an anti-doping sanction from WADA or LADI are not eligible to compete in Il Festino until their sanction period has ended.

  1. Provisional results will be published by the committee immediately after the potential winners cross the finish line.
  2. These provisional results are subject to change following the committee’s review of any possible rule violations.
  3. The official results are determined after the provisional results have been verified by the committee.
  4. The official results will be released promptly after the competition concludes.
  5. Prizes will only be awarded after the official results have been finalized and released by the committee.

To confirm eligibility, potential winners will undergo a verification process that includes the following checks:

  1. The bike must weigh no more than 6.8kg, excluding accessories like
    the bidon, bike computer, and bento box.
  2. The width of the bike tire must not exceed 30mm.
  3. A valid photo identification (ID) must be provided.
  4. A race finish line photo will be required (provided by Il Festino).

  1. To submit a protest, participants must complete the official protest form,
    provide a deposit of Rp. 1,000,000 (one million rupiah), and include video
    evidence as the sole form of proof.
  2. If the protest is dismissed due to insufficient evidence, the deposit will not be refunded.
  3. Only registered participants of Il Festino are eligible to submit a protest.
  4. Protests regarding race results must be submitted no later than 15 minutes after the official results have been posted.

  1. In the event of rain or any situation that endangers participant safety, the
    committee reserves the right to modify the route or stop the race. The race results will be based on the participants' standings at the time of the stoppage.
  2. If the race is canceled due to unforeseen events beyond the committee’s
    control — such as natural disasters, pandemics, riots, or demonstrations
    — the registration fee will not be refunded.

There are four race categories in Il Festino 2025:

  • General Category: The overall winner is the fastest participant to cross the finish line across all categories.
  • Sprint Category: This category awards the fastest participant in the
    designated sprint section.
  • Climb Category: The winner in this category is the participant who
    completes the climb section in the shortest time.
  • Youth Category: This category is for participants under the age of 23, with the fastest individual crowned as the winner.

Il Festino 2025 features two distinct race route categories, allowing participants to choose a challenge that suits their experience level and goals:

  • Gran Fondo (130km): A route designed to push your limits, this category will test your stamina over a longer distance with varying terrains and elevations.
  • Medio Fondo (80km): A slightly shorter route that still offers plenty of challenges, this category is perfect for those looking for a balanced ride that combines endurance and enjoyment.
