There are four race categories in Il Festino 2025:

RULES & REGULATIONS

ll Festino is an amateur cycling-for-all event with a spirit of “Grand Tour”, intended for cycling enthusiasts and open to both professionals and cycling enthusiasts. Inspired by the Giro d’Italia professional cycling race, Il Festino brings the same festive atmosphere with the mission of promoting the sport of cycling. Il Festino will be held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, in Special Region Yogyakarta, with two categories:

  • Gran Fondo – 135 km
  • Medio Fondo – 84 km

  1. The minimum age to participate in Il Festino is 18 years old in the event year, 2025.
  2. Registration can only be done through the official Il Festino website or links provided by the organizers.
  3. Registration closes on 15 November 2025, or earlier if the quota is filled.
  4. Participants must submit a health certificate, either electronically or in physical form, through the designated channels or at race pack collection, according to organizer policy.
  5. Registration is personal, non-transferable, and cannot be sold. Participants must have valid health and life insurance on race day.
  6. The organizer may request proof of insurance and may offer relevant insurance products.
  7. Registration payments are non-refundable in all situations, including force majeure.

Race packages must be collected on November 28–29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Race Village, Wyndham Garden Yogyakarta.

  • Participants must show photo identification such as ID card, passport, or KITAS.
  • For delegated pickup, a power-of-attorney letter from the registered participant must be submitted along with the registration proof.
  • Collective pickup is allowed with a power-of-attorney letter from each participant, with a maximum of 4 race packs per collector.

 

  1. Only road bikes with traditional frame shapes are allowed. Recumbent, prone, hand-powered bikes, MTBs, and e-bikes are not allowed. Road bikes with electric assist or supplementary propulsion devices are prohibited.
  2. Maximum tire width: 30 mm.
  3. Minimum bike weight: 6.8 kg (6800 grams), excluding bidon, bike computer, and bento box. Bike scrutiny may be conducted before and after the race.
  4. Only drop handlebars are allowed. Clip-ons or modified handlebars are not permitted.
  5. Helmets are mandatory. They must be certified, properly functioning, and worn at all times. Damaged helmets (cracks, broken buckles) are not allowed. Removing a helmet intentionally will result in immediate disqualification.
  6. The official Il Festino jersey must be worn throughout the race.
  7. Participants must use all race numbers: bib, bike tag, seat-post number, helmet number.
  8. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tools, spare tubes, and a pump or CO₂ canister. No technical support will be provided by the organizer.
  9. Race items provided include body numbers, seat-post numbers, and a borrowed timing transponder. Failure to wear any required equipment may result in being barred from starting or being marked DNS.
  10. Lost transponders must be replaced with a fee of IDR 1,600,000.

  1. Il Festino will use a wave start system. Participants must start in their assigned wave/peloton.
    • Gran Fondo ceremonial start: 05:15 (Local Time / West Indonesia Time / GMT+7)
    • Medio Fondo ceremonial start: 05:25 (Local Time / West Indonesia Time / GMT+7) 
  2. Late arrivals may be moved to a different wave at organizer discretion.
  3. The ceremonial start will be conducted together. All participants must follow instructions from commissaires and police officers. Participants will be escorted in a single convoy for 20 km from Wyndham Garden Hotel to the real start point.
  4. Leaving or overtaking the convoy is strictly prohibited.
  5. After passing the real start area, riders will be released with a raised green flag and/or a whistle from the commissaire.
  6. Participants must wear full race equipment—transponder, bib number, helmet number, bike number, jersey, helmet—when entering the start area. Missing items may result in denied entry.

  1. Participants must follow the official route and instructions from marshals and judges. Failure to follow the route or ignoring instructions may result in disqualification.
  2. Knowing the race route is the participant’s responsibility. GPX files can be downloaded from the following link.
  3. Cut-off points will be placed along the route. Participants behind the cut-off must board the broom wagon and will be marked DNF. Refusal may result in rejection from future Il Festino events.
  4. Cut-off time for both GF and MF is 11.00 Local Time / West Indonesia Time / GMT+7

  1. Drafting behind motorized vehicles is prohibited and dangerous. Violators will receive a verbal warning; repeated violations may lead to disqualification.
  2. Holding onto vehicles (pulling, sticky bottles) or receiving assistance from vehicles is prohibited and leads to disqualification. 
  3. Motorized vehicle use is prohibited unless the participant has been cut off and marked DNF. 
  4. Participants must respect marshals, organizers, and judges. Abusive behavior may result in disqualification and a ban from future events. 
  5. Personal support vehicles are not allowed; using them results in disqualification. 
  6. Medical teams and ambulances are available along the route. Medical staff may stop a participant from continuing if deemed medically unfit

  1. All participants will be timed using MyLaps timing chips from start to finish. 
  2. Overall rankings are based on the participant’s start and finish times. 
  3. Age category rankings are based on times within each defined age group. 
  4. Medio Fondo will have timing recorded but is not competitive and has no podium ceremony.

Age category is determined as: 2025 minus the participant’s birth year.

  • Timing chips must be mounted on the fork (left or right side).
  • Participants are responsible for correct installation.
  • Incorrect registration information affecting category placement will result in disqualification.

Under 23 / Youth Category
Open to participants aged 18–23 years as of event day. A valid ID or document may be required for age verification.

Age Category Winners
Additional age brackets may be defined by the organizer (e.g., 24–34, 35–44, 45+).

Minimum Participant Requirement A minimum of five (5) registered participants is required for each age category to be eligible for official podium recognition.

If a category has fewer than five (5) participants:
The category may be merged with the nearest suitable category, OR The organizer may proceed without awarding category winners at its sole discretion.

Winner Determination
Winners will be determined based on official timing and results recorded by Il Festino. Only participants who complete the full course according to event rules are eligible for ranking. In the event of on organizer’s timing system, result will be determined by photo finish & comissere on finish line.

  1. In line with Il Festino’s commitment to supporting the World Anti-Doping
    Agency (WADA) and the Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency (LADI) in
    promoting clean sports, the use of performance-enhancing drugs is
    strictly prohibited. A list of banned substances can be found here: https://www.wada-ama.org/en/prohibited-list
  2. Participants currently serving an anti-doping sanction from WADA or LADI are not eligible to compete in Il Festino until their sanction period has ended.

  1. General Classification (Overall Winner): fastest time from Wyndham Garden start to SD Kemukus, Nanggulan, Kulon Progo. 
  2. Sprint Winner (Vincitore Velocista): fastest time from Wyndham Garden start to KM 73 on Jalan Daendels. Only one sprint winner overall. 
  3. Mountain Winner (Re del Vertice): fastest time from the mountain segment start at KM 85.89 in the Sermo Dam Wildlife Reserve to the KOM summit. Only one KOM winner overall. 
  4. Distance markers for Sprint and KOM finish lines will be provided.

Winners will undergo verification including (but not limited to):

  • Bike weight no less than 6.8 kg
  • Tire width not exceeding 30 mm
  • Photo identification
  • Finish-line photo evidence

General Category – Male & Female

Team Category

  1. Protests must be submitted through the official protest form, along with a deposit of IDR 1,000,000 per incident, and video evidence only. 
  2. If rejected due to insufficient evidence, the deposit is forfeited. 
  3. Only registered participants may file protests. 
  4. Race result protests must be filed within 10 minutes of result release.

  1. In case of rain or hazards affecting participant safety, the organizer may shorten or stop the race. Final results will be based on participant positions when the race is stopped. 
  2. If the race must be canceled due to factors beyond organizer control—natural disasters, pandemics, riots, demonstrations—registration fees will not be refunded.

There are four race categories in Il Festino 2025:

  • General Category: The overall winner is the fastest participant to cross the finish line across all categories.
  • Sprint Category: This category awards the fastest participant in the designated sprint section.
  • Climb Category: The winner in this category is the participant who completes the climb section in the shortest time.
  • Youth Category: This category is for participants under the age of 23, with the fastest individual crowned as the winner.

Il Festino 2025 features two distinct race route categories, allowing participants to choose a challenge that suits their experience level and goals:

  • Gran Fondo (130km): A route designed to push your limits, this category will test your stamina over a longer distance with varying terrains and elevations.
  • Medio Fondo (80km): A slightly shorter route that still offers plenty of challenges, this category is perfect for those looking for a balanced ride that combines endurance and enjoyment.

No matter which category you choose, both routes provide a thrilling race through scenic, beautiful landscapes.
